All of a sudden only certain sites were opening - sites tested and that opened were:
- Google Ecosystem
- Yandex
- Wikipedia
- Cisco
- Oracle
- Apple (Initially did not open, and then opened)
- CNN
- Bing
- Yahoo
- USPTO
- GoDaddy
Sites that did not open:
- Most of the search engines included in AIORadar.com, part of VAL-U-PRO consulting group, llc ecosystem, including AIORadar.com, which was opening initially and then it stopped later on
- SearchGiggle.com
- Fortunately, EcoBet, which is part of our VAL-U-PRO ecosystem worked
- ComeDaddyMummy
- Amazebaba.com
- eBay
- Amazon
- BBC
- Alibaba.com
- Comcast
- Namecheap
At the time of occurrence, it happened to be the case with only one of the devices that was in our ecosystem, and not with all the devices.
We asked the question whether the websites of companies with headquarters in California were working. However, we noticed that companies such as Twitter, Reddit were also throwing an error. Even the ISP providers such as, Comcast site, were not working.
As presented in articles, we tried to identify whether this issue pertained to IPV6 vs IPV4. However, our investigation suggested that this error was not connected to the nature of IP address. We also tried other aspects as well such as,
- modifying configuration file,
- clearing dns cache,
- changing IP address manually
and none worked.
Then, out of curiosity to see which websites were working, we started digging in further to see any other trend, and it appeared based on sites that were working as can be seen from screenshots, political affiliation might also be connected to this unusual issue, though it is too early to conclude at this point in time.
Irrespective of what the reason is, it certainly is scary to know that our internet traffic can be tracked and that we can be controlled to see what people with power might want us to see rather than what we would prefer to see and learn.
With one of the most vital elections in the history of the world, could this be a political strategy from both the sides to point fingers at each other that the internet is being censored to cause further confusion?
